Northside 3rd Space
A place for people to grow community and themselves
The third space (def.): a location outside of one’s home (first space) and workplace (second space) where people can socialize, build relationships, and foster a sense of community.
Our Mission
What is a 3rd Space?
The term was coined by sociologist Ray Oldenburg to describe where people go to converse with others and connect with their community*.
In an ever more virtual world, having access to these places is vital to community health and wellbeing.
Shortly after purchasing Leaf & Quiet, the plant shop resident at 235 N 1st St W, the need for a proper gathering space on the Northside became evident to Jennie Yonce. The slow development of the garden space, the library, the underground lounge, and the cafe have all been driven by this understanding.
Our History
The Northside 3rd Space nonprofit exists to facilitate access to valuable arts and culture experiences for residents of the Northside and beyond. We believe that bringing people together is an act of diplomacy, that creating community is equally beneficial to the individual and society as a whole, and that music and art can heal the world.
We aim to provide a safe and welcoming place for our community.
We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, political convictions, national origin, sex, disability, sexual orientation, gender identification, or age.*
We believe in the sanctity of safe spaces, and will not tolerate hateful speech or action.
